Excretion of individual unconjugated 17-oxosteroids by normal female subjects.

چکیده
A method has been described for the determination of individual Unconjugated 17-oxosteroids in human urine. The procedure involves the immediate extraction of the sample, purification steps and a paper Chromatographie separation of steroids. The 17-oxosteroids were evaluated by a Zimmermann-reaction in situ on the paper, elution of chromogens and spectrophotometry. Values for the excretion of Unconjugated metabolites by healthy female subjects under basal conditions, following corticotrophin and metopirone stimulation, and after administration of testosterone-propionate were also presented. Only very low levels and a preponderance of the 5/?-reduced metabolites were observed in the urines studied.

The urinary excretion of androsterone, aetiocholanolone, total 17-oxosteroids, and 17-hydroxycorticosteroids (17-OHCS) was measured in 40 patients with lung cancer three days before resection and again 10-15 days after resection of their lung tumours. There was a significant postoperative increase in the excretion of 17-OHCS but a significant decrease in the excretion of androsterone and aetioc...
متن کاملUrinary excretion of 17-oxosteroids in hereditary coproporphyria.
1. Urinary 17-oxosteroid conjugates were measured by gas-liquid chromatography in five patients with hereditary coproporphyria. 2. Three patients were in an acute attack and showed significantly increased excretion of sulphate or glucuronide conjugates of aetiocholanolone. There was increased excretion of several other related steroids but no consistent pattern was apparent. 3. In the two patie...

The 24 h urinary excretion of 17-oxo and oxogenic steroids is often used in the investigation of adrenal disease, the 17-oxosteroids reflecting androgen production. The assay involves the formation of a chromogen with 17-oxosteroids by the Zimmerman reaction (Callow et al., 1938). Although a number of drugs are known to interfere with this reaction (Varley et al., 1976; Gray et al., 1969) inter...
متن کاملUrinary excretion of 17-ketosteroids in children.
Determination of the urinary excretion of 1 7-ketosteroids (17-oxosteroids) is the most important laboratory test in the investigation of endocrine disorders involving the adrenal cortex and gonads in children. The normal range of excretion varies with the method employed, since non-steroidal pigment may to a greater or lesser degree be measured as 17-ketosteroid. It is important therefore to k...
